Cooper Creek

Located along the banks of Cooper Creek and far from civilization, this area offers camping, hiking and trout fishing. Anglers may fish both Cooper Creek and nearby Mulky Creek for wild and stocked trout.

Good, hard surface roads until you reach Forest Service Road 4; this road is a gravel road and is crooked and steep in parts.

There are 17 campsites with picnic tables, tent pads and grills at this recreation area. Four of the sites are waterfront.

Hikers can enjoy the Yellow Mountain Trail, the Cooper Creek Trail, or the Mill Shoals Trail.

Cooper Creek Scenic Area joins the recreation area and features 1,240 acres with hiking trails and fishing more tributaries of Cooper Creek.

Blairsville, Morganton, and Dahlonega are interesting towns to visit.

There is no parking fee to fish, but parking spaces near the recreation area are limited. State fishing license and trout stamp are required. Check State regulations for season and bag limits.





 Directions

From Blue Ridge, take Hwy. 76 east for 5 miles to Morganton; turn right on Hwy. 60 south for 16 miles. Turn left on Forest Service Road 4 for 6 miles.
