Major Southern metropolitan center, Atlanta, has come a long way in the last century, now a sprawling urban hub home to several universities, an expansive list of cultural sights and a well-rounded range of boutiques, bars and eateries.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Commerce has an impressive historic downtown Commercial District with a collection of 19th and 20th century commercial and industrial structures reflecting the charm captured by Olive Ann Burns in her novel, Cold Sassy Tree. Commerce is on the U.S. 441 Heritage Highway. Shopping, restaurants and a train track down the center of town take you back to a more relaxed era. Although shopping at Tanger Outlets and Commerce Crossing may be high on a lot of folks plans, others come to Commerce because of drag racing. Atlanta Dragway is an NHRA-sanctioned track and has a full schedule of events throughout the year including NHRA’s Southern Nationals in April. Don’t miss going to Funopolis Family Fun Center, with mini golf, laser tag, arcade games and much more for the whole family! Sandy Creek or Deer Trail golf courses offer traditional golfing in the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains.
