Description
Minutes from Athens and only an hour east of Atlanta, Watkinsville retains a small-town atmosphere. The circa 1801 Eagle Tavern remains in its original site, and its museum reveals daily life in frontier Georgia. The Elder Mill Covered Bridge, built in 1897 by Nathaniel Richardson, is located 5 miles south of Watkinsville and still carries traffic over its wooden trusses.
History isn't all that we have to offer. Take a leisurely stroll in downtown, do some shopping in Town Center or in the many antique shops, art galleries and specialty shops. Travel down Highway 441 and stop at any of the roadside stands for fresh fruits and vegetables before making your way to Bishop, where you will need to stop in Bishops Blue Women of Pottery and watch them create magic before your eyes. A short drive further on 441 will take you by Winterhawk Pottery, located in the historic Farmington Train Depot. There is so much to see and do, and we're waiting for you to discover it all!
